Luke 18:18-23
Conclusion
Many humorous stories begin with phrase “a man goes to the doctor.” This account, however, is not one of them. The rich young ruler came to Jesus, because he thought Jesus would give him the answer to his spiritual question.
Jesus is the only One who can give the right answer to the deepest question of life.
o “How can I receive eternal life?”
The rich young ruler was not the only one who turned away and rejected Jesus’s words. In John’s gospel, others rejected Jesus after His teaching hits too close to home.
Jesus then asks the disciples if they want to go as well.
Peter answered correctly,
o “Lord, who will we go to? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that You are the Holy One of God!” (John 6:68-69, HCSB).
Jesus is uniquely qualified to tell us how to receive eternal life because He is God in human flesh who came to save us from our sins by His death on the cross and His resurrection and bring us into a right relationship with God.
He is the right doctor for the right job!
