Doctor’s Orders (Part 13)

Luke 18:18-23

Study

The young man expressed that he had kept those commandments that Jesus named. But, Jesus Christ saw the young man on the inside.

Jesus knew that the young man had told a great, big lie.

Sometimes patients will tell their physicians the things they believe the doctor wants to hear. Perhaps the young man told Jesus what he thought Jesus wanted to hear.

Jesus, at this point, left out two of the commandments.

o “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5, HCSB).

o “Do not make an idol for yourself…You must not bow down to them or worship them” (Exodus 20:4-5, HCSB).

The young man claimed to have kept the commandments, but he should have been confessing his sin to Jesus and asking Jesus to save him.
