Luke 18:18-23
Study
However, any look at the Gospel accounts and the sayings of Jesus will inform us that He was interested, not in the outer works, but the inner condition of the heart.
Jesus Christ knew the condition of men’s hearts.
In the account of the paralytic from Mark 2, Jesus forgave the man’s sins and knew that the scribes were thinking to themselves that He was blaspheming. This was another expression of His deity. Jesus also condemned those who were only interested in keeping the external law only.
Jesus admonished the Pharisees,
o “Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so the outside of it may also become clean” (Matthew 23:26, HCSB)
Remember that Jesus deepened the meaning of the commandments to encompass the inner working of the heart when he called:
· Murder to be hating in the heart.
· Adultery to be lust in the heart.
Jesus did each of those things on His own authority, which is another expression of His deity.
