Although George Washington proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving in 1789, President Abraham Lincoln, in the midst of the Civil War, made the celebration the regular date for the last Thursday in November.
This week, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, remember the words of Scripture, “Give thanks in everything,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (I Thessalonians 5:18, HCSB).
I am thankful for my family. God saw Cyndy and me through a tough period after she took a fall that shattered her shoulder. After shoulder replacement surgery, she spent two weeks in the hospital and one week in rehab after complications developed. Also, I’m thankful this year that one of my granddaughters became a Christian!
I’m thankful for my church, Brookwood Baptist, where I continue to serve and teach.
I’m also thankful for the ministry of apologetics, through my teaching and writing, and the number of people that continue to subscribe to this blog.
Most of all, I am thankful that Jesus Christ has made me a child of God through His sacrificial death on the cross and His glorious bodily resurrection.
Be thankful this week!
