Study

When Jesus named off those commandments, the young man must have felt pretty good about himself. He could have been thinking, “Really? That was it.”

Perhaps the young man thought it had been easy to keep those commandments. After all, it’s easy to go through your day and not murder anyone. Most days, anyway.

At the time of Jesus, most people would have also thought that was pretty good too. The young man would have been praised for keeping the outer commandments. The people in his community may have thought that his wealth and position was the sign that God has blessed him for being an upright young man.
