A Scared Young Man
Is there something that we can learn from Gideon’s account so far? I think there are two lessons we can see from this part of the account.
The first lesson is that God will discipline His people.
As we’ve seen, God warned the people that He would discipline the nation if they walked away from God and worshipped the false idols. He did that even before they entered the Promised Land and that is exactly what happened. God is not waiting to throw lightning bolts at believers through when they sin.
As the writer of Hebrews said,
“And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly or faint when you are reposed by Him, for the Lord disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son He receives” (Hebrews 12:5-6, HCSB).
