A Scared Young Man
It is the context of bringing a sinful people back to Himself that we find Gideon. Rather, it is the Angel of the Lord who finds Gideon. Not that God had any trouble finding this young man.
What is Gideon doing when he receives this divine visitation? He is hiding in a wine vat in order to thresh grain and keep it from falling into the hands of the Midianites.
The messenger greets Gideon.
“Then the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (Judges 6:12, HCSB).
Who is the Angel of the Lord? In verse 14 and 23, the Angel is said to be Yahweh Himself. Here Gideon is threshing wheat in secret and he is confronted by the Lord Himself.
What does Gideon do in response to the divine revelation?
