The message of the heavenly host was good news for those shepherds and for all of us.
- “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors!” (Luke 2:14, HCSB).
The news had two great purposes—God’s glory and our peace. Because Jesus came to earth, God is glorified because of His plan of salvation. People can have peace! People can give glory to God in worship.
Someone said that God’s purpose is to give you peace by being the most glorious Person in your life. But, for us to have that peace, God must rule in our lives.
How is this possible?
The apostle Paul says,
- “Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1, HCSB).
We receive peace by receiving the free gift of the righteousness of Christ when we repent and believe in Him. God exchanges the sinless perfection of Jesus for our sinful imperfection, thus making us justified before Him.
That is the greatest gift and the best news ever!
