“Take You At Your Word” by Cody Carnes
One of the most fundamental questions of the Christian life is “Why should I trust what God says?” It affects how the believer lives his or her life and choices he or she makes. Most Christian songs take it as a given that we should trust God’s Word. Cody Carnes tackles the issue head-on in his song, “Take You At Your Word.”
Cody Carnes is an American contemporary Christian music artist and worship leader, born in 1989. He says his passions are to combine innovative artistry and authentic worship. He and his family worship at The Belonging Co. in Nashville, Tennessee.
Carnes begins by paraphrasing Psalm 119:105. He describes God’s Word as a “lamp” and the “way.” God’s path is narrow, but his desire is to follow it.
He compares the chaos in creation from Genesis 1:2 and God bringing order to creation to his own life. Again, Carnes uses the metaphor of the narrow road to describe the Christian life and his desire to be on that road.
In the third stanza, the song affirms perseverance and the assurance that God will never forsake the believer.
“Take You At Your Word” is a contemporary song which is based in Scripture and conviction of God’s reliability and faithfulness. In the order of worship planning, it can be used in the third position or the song before the sermon.
