“
Last Sunday, I was pleased, thrilled, and honored to baptize my oldest granddaughter Morgan at Brookwood Baptist Church.
Scooter participated in our annual youth summer event Challenge Week last summer. During that time she went down front and expressed interest in being baptized. After talking with her and seeing our Student Minister Daniel Faulkner, we scheduled her for Baptism Class because of her commitment to Christ.
Brookwood has a simple baptismal formula based on Paul’s words in Romans.
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom. 10:9, CSB)
So, I asked her two basic questions.
“Do you believe Jesus came, He lived a perfect life, and died for your sins and rose from the dead?”
Her answer was, “Yes.”
“And what is your confession?”
Scooter gave a resounding statement, “Jesus is Lord!”
Because of her profession and confession, I baptized her with the Great Commission Trinitarian formula in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
It is always wonderful to see the waters of baptism stirred, but it is really awesome to see a member of your family make their commitment to Jesus public through baptism.
Scooter later told me,
“Nothing can live up to the feeling of being baptized, and I’m so glad you got to be one to do it.”
I’m so thrilled to be a part of her faith journey! Praise the Lord!
