Happy New Year 2023!

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28-29, HCSB)

As you read this, a new year is upon us. Along with a New Year come resolutions, admonitions, and the nagging question of whether the New Year will be better than the one before. As I was thinking about this, I was reminded of a Scripture I read some weeks ago from the writer of the book of Hebrews. “Hold on to grace,” he says. What is grace? Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward us most notably shown through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

For believers, grace is a constant in our lives. We hold on to grace by remembering we are the undeserved recipients of both salvation and the Christian life. With this foundation, we can serve God in a way that takes the focus off us and throws the focus on Him. With the correct focus on grace and service, the question of results fades into faith in God’s ultimate plan.

For 2023, let us as believers hold on to God’s grace.
