Although George Washington proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving in 1789, President Abraham Lincoln, amid the Civil War, made the celebration the regular date for the last Thursday in November.
This week, as we celebrated Thanksgiving, I hope you remembered the words of Scripture, “Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (I Thessalonians 5:18, HCSB).
I am thankful for my family. I mentioned last year that one of my granddaughters, Audrey, asked Jesus to be her Savior. Praise God! I’m thankful this year that I was permitted by our church to baptize her.
I’m thankful for my church, Brookwood Baptist, where I am able to serve as a deacon, as a greeter, and a Life Group leader.
I’m also thankful for the ministry of apologetics. I am thankful that I am a part of the Shreveport Reasons To Believe chapter. Through my teaching and writing, I am able to equip believers to be more confident in their faith.
Most of all, I am thankful that Jesus Christ has made me a child of God through His sacrificial death on the cross and His glorious bodily resurrection.
Be thankful this week!
